THE CASE FOR A COACH

APPROACH
For those of you who are at a point where you need to build organizational support within your company, develop broader scale SCORŪ project management expertise, accelerate implementation of a current list of projects, and/or just need some tips and techniques in your current project teams, SCE provides SCOR project coaching configured to the level of support you need.
 
The Supply Chain Excellence approach utilizes a trainapplyreview technique integrating formal instruction, guided practice, and independent "homework" assignments.  The project work follows the discipline highlighted in the Supply Chain Excellence book and is summarized below.
 
Phase 0 – Build Organizational Support
Phase 1 – Planning and Organizing
Phase 2 – Analyze Basis of Competition
Phase 3 – Design Material Flow
Phase 4 – Design Work, and Information Flow
Phase 5 - Implementation Planning

 

 
TYPICAL PROJECT DELIVERABLES
Typically, each phase consists of 2 to 4 days of "classroom" instruction facilitated by the coach, followed by two weeks of "homework assignments" for the project team to complete.  Each phase also incorporates a steering team review focused on decision making and prioritization.  Listed below are the typical tasks performed by the coach and project team.

Analyze Basis of Competition – Kick off Project, SCORŪ Metrics, Benchmark Assessment, Supply Chain Competitive Requirements, SCORcard, Defect Analysis, and Steering Team Review 2
 
Material Flow Design – AS IS Material Flow, Material Flow Disconnect Analysis, TO BE Material Flow, Opportunity Analysis, Project Portfolio, Quick Hit Plans, Leading Practice Assessment, and Steering Team Review 3
 
Work and Information Flow Design – Transactional Analysis, AS IS Work and Information Flow, Transactional Disconnect Analysis, TO BE Work and Information Flow Blueprint, and Steering Team Review 4
 
Implementation Planning and Portfolio Development – Project Portfolio, Project Implementation and Business Process Management Plan, Business Case Document and Steering Team Review 5

 

 
COMPANY RESOURCE COMMITMENT
There are always four project roles: executive sponsor, steering team, project leader, and project team.  There are several formats by which a Supply Chain Excellence project can be delivered.  There are three drivers that help determine the best format including, project scope, project team time commitment, and project team experience.
 
Coach Only Format - manageable scope, 50% project team commitment, no SCORŪ project experience necessary
 
Coach plus Business Analyst Format - manageable to large scope, 25% project team commitment, no SCORŪ experience necessary; with SCORŪ project experience, a Coach Only Format is feasible
 
Coach plus 2 Business Analysts Format - large scope, less than 25% project team commitment, no SCORŪ project experience necessary; with SCORŪ project experience, Coach plus Business Analyst Format feasible
